Handpiece and Cannulas

The Smartlipo reusable handpiece is made up of a handpiece with a fibre fixing device and a cannula that has to be linked to the distal part of the handpiece which is necessary to deliver the fibre into the body.
There are 2 types of available cannula:
- one with an external diameter of 1 mm that is used with 300 µm fibres (single use or reusable) and,
- one with an external diameter of 1,4 mm that is used with 600 µm fibres (single use or reusable).

Each type of cannula is produced in 5 different lengths in order to fit different treatment area dimensions. Cannula lenghts are: 10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm.

Single use Fibres

DEKA provides 2 kinds of single use fibres for Laserlipolisi® which differ from the diameter and suggested use:
- 300 µm fibre which is used for power levels up to 10W;
- 600 µm fibre which must be used with power levels of over 10W

All fibres are made in silica and have 2 plastic protective tubes: a Teflon tube that starts from the laser connector and covers the fibre for the first 1,5 m; and a silicon tube which protect the remaining part of the fibre. The Teflon tube is stronger and is used to prevent shocks while silicon is more flexible and enhances the freedom of movement.
Fibres come in a double sterile envelope, ready to be used.


Reusables Fibres

DEKA provides 2 kinds of reusable fibres for Laserlipolisi® which can be sterilized in autoclave up to 10 times. Reusable fibres differ from the diameter and their suggested use:
- 300 µm fibre which is used for power levels up to 10W;
- 600 µm fibre which must be used with power levels of over 10W

All fibres are made in silica and have 2 plastic protective tubes: a Teflon tube that starts from the laser connector and covers the fibre for the first 1,5 m; and a silicon tube which protects the remaining part of the fibre. The Teflon tube is stronger and is used to prevent shocks while silicon is more flexible and enhances the freedom of movement.
Reusable fibres also have sterilization counters close to the connector. There are ten rings with numbers from 1 to 10. Each ring has to be removed before sterilization.
Fibres come in a double sterile envelope, ready to be used.


Tools for Fibres

A sterilization process or a prolonged use, tends to turn opaque fibres silica, especially in free end surface. Opacity can be seen by the reduction of the aiming beam brightness. The main effect of opacity is the reduction of fibre efficiency in delivering laser beam power. In order to regenerate fibre efficiency, DEKA provides a special knife to cut fibre end and create a new transparent fibre end surface.
Another useful tool is the fibre cleaver that is able to cut the silicon protective tube avoiding any damage to the fibre lateral surface.


Aspiration cannulas

After Laserlipolisi®, especially in big areas like abdomen or legs, it is possible to aspirate the lysate created with the laser (laser assisted liposuction). For this operation DEKA provides two cannulas for aspiration: one 15 cm long with 2 holes and another with 22 cm long with 3 holes. Aspiration cannulas are provided by DEKA in a NON sterile envelope. Doctors must sterilize them before use.
NOTE: Cannulas have to be linked to a pump for fat aspiration which DEKA do not provide.


Protective Glasses

All people, staing in the room where the laser is working, could be affected by laser radiation exposure. For this reason they must wear safety glasses.
DEKA provides with every laser system specific laser safety eyewear which are appropriate for the laser wavelength, for the laser power and for the laser working modes. All glasses are compliant with European Community norm EN 207 which is stricter than the American norm ANSI Z 136...
